Iowa CPA Day at the Capitol

Overview

Strong connections with our state and local elected leaders are at the heart of ISCPA’s advocacy work, and Iowa CPA Day at the Capitol is your chance to be part of that impact. Join fellow CPAs for an up-close look at how decisions are made at the Capitol while helping Iowa lawmakers better understand the challenges and opportunities facing the profession.

New to advocacy? Long-time attendee? No matter your experience level, we’ll make sure you feel prepared, supported and empowered to speak up for the profession - or simply come along to listen, learn and observe. You are encouraged to arrange short meetings with your own district representatives to establish connections, but this is not a requirement to attend the event.

New for 2026: A pre-event training webinar. Held on January 7 from 9-10 a.m., the webinar will provide an overview of ISCPA’s legislative agenda and priorities, highlight key policy issues impacting the profession and share best practices for effectively communicating with lawmakers. Login details will be sent to all registered attendees prior to January 7.

Highlights

Preliminary agenda:

• 11:15 a.m.-noon: Arrivals, registration, lunch | Iowa Department of Revene (IDOR) office, Hoover Building
• Noon-12:30 p.m. | Review of legislative priorities with ISCPA lobbyist Brad Epperly 
• 12:30-1:15 p.m. | IDOR updates
• 1:15-1:45 p.m. | Break and walk to the Capitol
• 1:45-2:15 p.m. | Meet with Rob Sand, Iowa Auditor of State (AOS) and other AOS staff 
• 2:15-4 p.m. | Pre-arranged meetings with legislators and free time for one-on-one visits with legislators
• 4-4:15 p.m. | Walk back to IDOR office
• 4:15-4:45 p.m. | Debrief as a group and closing comments

The event begins and ends in the Hoover State Office Building, home of the Iowa Department of Revenue. We will use the Capitol complex heated tunnel system when transitioning to the Iowa Statehouse.
