Iowa CPA Education Foundation announces new scholarship

June 01, 2026

Endowed scholarship honors Henze

The Iowa Society of CPAs (ISCPA) is excited to announce the establishment of the Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield – Daryl Henze Scholarship, an Iowa CPA Education Foundation endowed scholarship created in partnership with Wellmark honoring Daryl Henze.

This scholarship recognizes longtime ISCPA member Daryl Henze, retired audit partner at KPMG LLP in Des Moines and a past Society president, for his exemplary leadership, stewardship and longstanding service as Chair of the Wellmark Board of Directors.

The Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield – Daryl Henze Scholarship will support Iowa-based, college senior-level accounting students who demonstrate integrity, accountability and a commitment to serving others through their professional work—principles Daryl has exemplified throughout his service to Wellmark.

“Daryl has served Wellmark with extraordinary commitment, integrity and stewardship,” describes a Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield statement. “During his tenure as Board Chair, Daryl provided steady leadership, thoughtful governance and a deep sense of responsibility to our members, workforce and mission. Wellmark is stronger today because of his guidance.”

Each year, the scholarship will be awarded at the ISCPA Circle of Excellence Awards gala. In addition to financial support, recipients will have the opportunity to interview at Wellmark. Through this, Wellmark aims to connect with and inspire future accounting leaders who embody Daryl’s values.

Daryl’s leadership with Wellmark continues as he remains a member of Wellmark’s Board of Directors serving as Chair of the Audit Committee—a role in which his deep experience and expertise will continue to provide meaningful value.

Daryl’s impact on the Iowa CPA Education Foundation extends beyond this new scholarship. He was the first crown level donor for the Iowa CPA Education Foundation in 2024, the foundation’s highest donor recognition level. Crown level donors have contributed $50,000 or more from one-time or cumulative contributions. This donation achievement provided the Foundation’s first named scholarship awarded in 2025, the Daryl & Karyl Henze Scholarship.

Not only has Daryl supported the foundation financially, but he volunteers his time on the Iowa CPA Education Foundation Advisory Committee and was a member of the subcommittee that helped guide ISCPA through a months-long process of establishing the Foundation in 2014.
