There are two ways to apply for membership with Iowa Society of CPAs. Use the convenient online application by choosing your membership type below and following the steps, or download and complete our PDF application to mail with your payment.

Membership Type

Select the one that most closely applies to you:
Resident and Non-Resident Members: Individuals holding a valid (active, inactive or lapsed) CPA certificate issued by the Iowa Accountancy Examining Board or a similar board of any state or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia.
Associate Members (individuals who have never been issued a CPA certificate)
Affiliates (individuals who have never been issued a CPA certificate)
Students (enrolled at a university, college, junior college, or community college who has an interest in accounting)

Class 1

Any CPA employed in Iowa and holding original CPA certificate more than 10 years

Class 2

Any CPA employed in Iowa and holding original CPA certificate 6-10 years

Class 3

Any CPA employed in Iowa and holding original CPA certificate 5 years or less

Class 4

Non-Resident CPA (employed outside Iowa)

Class 5

Any CPA not currently employed, a full-time student, or retired (a member who is not employed full-time (defined as more than 20 hours per week). Includes individuals not currently in the workforce due to full time pursuit of additional education or individuals who have permanently retired from the workforce.)

Class 7

Non-CPA owner of a CPA firm; or a Non-CPA accounting educator (full-time, college), or; Non-CPA holder of a credential issued by the AICPA including, but not limited to, a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) or an Accredited Business Valuation (ABV) professional

Class 8

Professional: A non-CPA affiliated with the accounting profession

Exam-qualified: A non-CPA who meets one of the following requirements:

  • Eligible to sit for the uniform CPA exam or other AICPA credentialing examination.
  • Successfully completed the exam, but not yet received a CPA certificate.

Class 10

As a Student Affiliate, shall be a student at a university, college, junior college, or community college who has an interest in accounting.
