Lars Peterson, LISW, is a licensed psychotherapist in private practice. In Lars’ private practice he works with individuals who are experiencing anxiety, stress, relationship issues, depression, loss, trauma symptoms and issues related to life changes. Lars also works with couples and families to help them communicate better, resolve conflict and build healthier relationships. In addition, Lars serves as a trainer and a student assistance counselor for Employee Family Resources (EFR).
Lars serves as a consultant to family businesses and other organizations on ownership and management transition issues, conflict resolution and family harmony, leadership development, effective communication and general business management consulting.
Lars is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Iowa, Des Moines campus. This includes teaching graduate level classes and working with graduate students and organizations to ensure that students have a successful advanced practicum experience.
Lars’ background includes serving as the COO of Transition Point Business Advisors, a Vice-President of two for profit companies, serving as the Associate State Director of the Iowa Small Business Development Centers at Iowa State University, and owning and operating a psychotherapy and consulting firm. Lars has worked in leadership positions in manufacturing and tech companies as well as nonprofits. Lars has mediated business, neighborhood, family and personal disputes and he has facilitated sessions between victims of crime and the offender(s).
Lars holds B.S. and M.S.W. degrees from the University of Iowa. Lars has received advanced training in a number of therapy treatment approaches including EMDR, ACT, CFT and the Gottman method of counseling couples. Lars has also received certification as a Family Business Advisor through the Family Firm Institute and advanced training in “Crucial Conversations."
