General Session

12:40pm - 1:30pm Building Your Ethical Leadership Through Emotional Intelligence

Bottom-line: Emotional intelligence (EQ) is the sine qua non of the most effective ethical leaders. Because leadership is a social-influence process - anyone, at any time, has the opportunity to demonstrate ethical leadership behaviors. While technical skills are important ingredients for success, research has proven that EQ is twice as important when determining an individual’s success. Individuals who recognize the core competencies of EQ and actively build them over time, not only increase their performance, but also that of their team. This interactive session will explore the core competencies of EQ through a series of exercises and tools to build an action plan for ongoing development and support.

Key takeaways:

  • Explore the five core competencies that make-up EQ
  • Debunk conventional management wisdom and practices (e.g., Golden Rule vs. Platinum Rule)
  • Develop your own self-awareness related to strengths, weaknesses and blind spots
  • Discuss perceptions in the workplace and how they influence group dynamics and effective communication
  • Accurately evaluate others as opposed to labeling and judging
  • Utilize EQ to build stronger, more effective relationships with co-workers

Speaker: Jeremy Wortman, Ph.D. | HRDI Initiatives

This session is available to registrants only.

General Session

3:55pm - 4:45pm Building Operational Strategy by Putting People First

Many businesses have a clear understanding and plan for their operational strategy but fall short with a strategy for human capital. Over 80% of businesses say they have no plan or very little strategy for talent management but consider their people to be critically important to ongoing, long-term success. This session will help organizations understand the robustness of talent management and how they can begin thinking and creating a more strategic approach to the acquisition, engagement, development and retention of their most valuable asset – their people.

Strategies include:

  • A framework that businesses can use to immediately begin assessing their own organization for talent management.
  • Ways to think about the people-side of business in a more comprehensive and deeper manner to identify areas of enhancement for operational strategy.
  • Explore why and how hiring the right person the first time increases productivity and drives employee retention. And how bad hires waste money.
  • How to get employees engaged so work they hard for you, get along with others and become loyal.
  • Ways to develop people so they can build talents into strengths and apply them to the job – this is the number one driver of employee retention.
  • Explore what it means to leverage talent involving career pathing, succession planning and mentoring.
  • Identify various tools that are readily accessible to support the analysis and practice of all talent management domains.

Speaker: Jeremy Wortman, Ph.D. | HDRI Initiatives

This session is available to registrants only.
