When it comes to a career in accounting…Do you have more questions than answers?

The Iowa Society of CPAs can
help you find the answers you need to pursue a career in accounting!
Whether you are taking
your first accounting course or your last one before graduation, if
accounting sparks your interest, learning as much as you can about
the CPA profession is a wise career decision. Here’s a career tip:
Become a student affiliate of the Iowa Society of CPAs, the
statewide professional association for certified public accountants
and others involved in the extraordinary world of accounting!
Eligibility
Requirements
Student affiliation is open to any non-CPA taking an accounting course at
an accredited post-secondary institution, i.e., a four-year college,
university, or community/business college.
If you obtain a bachelor’s
degree in accounting, you become eligible to be an
exam-qualified
affiliate with ISCPA until you
successfully pass all four parts of the CPA exam. If you obtain a bachelor’s degree
in another field, you are eligible to be a student affiliate as long as you
are currently enrolled in one or more accounting courses.
Annual Student
Affiliation Fee
$15.00/year (September 1 through August 31).
Student affiliates must
reapply and pay the fee each year.
An application form is posted online on the ISCPA website. In the fall, printed forms are distributed to
students at Iowa colleges,
universities, and community/business colleges.
Benefits
Involvement in a professional organization demonstrates a commitment
to quality and a strong desire to succeed in whatever career you
choose. Future employers will likely find that student affiliation
sets you apart from the crowd. In addition, as a student affiliate,
you will:
- Receive
Iowa CPA. The most recent issue will be in your welcome
packet.
- Receive
profession-related publications.
-
Be eligible for a $300
discount on
Becker
Professional Education review courses at any Iowa location.
- Be eligible for a 30%
discount on Kaplan
Schweser products.

the “Members Only” section of the
ISCPA website.
- Be eligible to
participate in member buying/affiliate programs that offer a
special discount to ISCPA members.
- Receive the member rate
on ISCPA-sponsored continuing professional education courses.
Mentoring via Email
The ISCPA Career Awareness Committee offers a project
called "e-mentoring" to all student affiliates. Here is a brief description:
-
A committee member contacts the
student affiliate by email and invites him or her to join the
e-mentoring project.
-
Student affiliates
participating in this project will be encouraged to ask
profession-related questions, seek career advice, learn how to
access the Members Only section of the ISCPA website, find
useful internet links, and so forth.
-
Students may opt out of
the project at any time.
