The news and comments on the proposed “preparer tax identification number” (PTIN) can be a bit overwhelming these days. Here is what ISCPA suggests members read:

The AICPA “Urgent Action Needed” email to its members,
A Wall St. Journal opinion piece by two CPAs in Congress, and
The Iowa CPA article on the IRS amending circular 230 and posting a PTIN online application by mid-September.

New CPE rules summarized

ISCPA has developed a Q&A summary of the new CPE rules adopted by the Iowa Accountancy Examining Board. The rules become effective January 1, 2011. View the summary here.

Accountancy board approves changes to rules

The Iowa Accountancy Examining Board (IAEB) has issued approved new administrative rules pertaining to continuing professional education and professional ethics and conduct. The approved CPE rules (Chaper 10) contain significant changes to existing requirements, while the rules of professional ethics and conduct (Chapter 13) have been completely rewritten. Read the rules which were approved July 14.
